Grow With The Flow in Denton uses aquaponics to cultivate their crop. "Aquaponics is a cultivation of fish and plants together in a symbiotic system where we use fish waste as fertilizer for our plants and our plants act as a filter to clean the water for our fish," Owner Jeff Jirovec said.
They use common goldfish that live right on site, helping this environmentally sound way of farming continue to flourish.
"Aquaponics uses about 15 percent of the land and five percent of the water of traditional agriculture. Because it's in a closed loop system, we're constantly recycling the water," Jirovec said.
This distinct way of farming lends to beautiful plants, produce and fresh flowers, which has become a big part of Grow With The Flow's business.
