How gypsophila and other flowers go from extras to leading actresses

If the flower world were Hollywood, Gypsophila has made it big. From a scene-filling extra in the background, these delicate-looking but surprisingly sturdy tiny white flowers are getting leading roles. Daring decorators of weddings, fashion shows and venues, put other glamorous prima donnas like roses and carnations on the side, giving bright dreamy clouds of Baby’s Breath center stage. Hanging from the ceiling, floating by the balcony, climbing up or down the stairs... they are everywhere.

"With Long Life - every bouquet becomes a Super Star!"

Back in the 80’s, highly focused Israeli R&D managed to overcome the natural obstacles for mass breeding of Gypsophila, through better clone selection, propagation in controlled environments, study of its physiology, illumination, growth control, and cultivation methods such as pruning and feeding. Israel-based Gadot Agro has played a key role in this effort, working closely with local breeders, producers, and the Volcani Research Center to develop new practical pre-and post-harvest methods for treatment during handling, transport, and storage, for over 40 years.

And the knowledge is being spread:

  1. Take One: Gypsophila growing in China has been basic and traditional. As the local decorative flower industry consolidates, Gadot Agro’s products and know-how are facilitating the quantum leap into modern, sophisticated production. Initial trials conducted on Gypsophila have shown outstanding results with Gadot Agro solutions used in opening rooms and all along the process. So just like movie stars, the flowers look more beautiful and younger for longer, and age gracefully. Shelf life has gone from only 4-5 days to 11-12. Use on a commercial scale has already begun, and flower quality is reaching new levels.
  2. Take Two: Gadot Agro was also behind the breakthroughs achieved with Lepidium in Kenya. Thanks to its pre/post-harvest treatments and holistic approach, Israeli breeders were able to lead Kenya into efficient production of this up-and-coming flower.

The list goes on, with problems solved in Snapdragons, Matthiola and new snappy Scabiosa varieties. Gadot Agro also offers integrated end to end treatment solutions for Roses, Carnations, Chrysanthemums, Gerberas and more, in very diverse geographies.

From farm to vase, even under extreme conditions, solutions are tailored to every customer’s needs.

Gadot Agro has been part of Israeli Agro Tech evolution since 1950, providing 360° Agro solutions, so farmers achieve the highest output in all crop types.

The unique and proprietary portfolio of flower care products and methods, TOG and Long Life by Gadot Agro, are at the scene in Israel, Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

The various TOG Pre-treatment products enhance quality and prolong the life of cut-flowers during the whole floricultural supply process.
