Why is recycling of single-use trays so important?

Normpack trays are 100% recyclable. This allows producers to re-use used trays in the production of new Normpack trays. This is already happening on a large scale. Recycling is not only very important for sustainability, but it is also cheaper.

A Normpack tray consists of, on average, 90% recycled material. Producers also use around 10% new material for the colour for example or because there is not enough recycled material available. Recycling is therefore very important for the production of Normpack.

A minimum of 70% recycling by 2025
Research by Royal FloraHolland shows that in the Netherlands and Germany no less than 50% of used trays are recycled into new trays. This takes place as part of business-to-business flow. One-off plant trays that end up with consumers are not being recycled. Within the framework of the Plastic Pact, Royal FloraHolland has committed to a recycling percentage of at least 70% by 2025.
