Primroses, violas and daisies are blooming on Don. The growers of the region are getting ready for spring holidays and assure that they will surprise everyone with the abundance of local tulips.
The weather forecast predicts snow and harsh wind. However, severe weather conditions do not bother greenhouse beauties, there is always spring inside. Each flower variety has its own time in the greenhouses of Olginskaya region. Before Christmas bright red stars, Poinsettia, left the premises, now pink, yellow and purple primroses are getting ready for their minute of glory, which should be right on the eve of Saint Valentine’s Day.
In the beginning of spring, cineraria, daisies and violas will be ready to vacate the greenhouse. At the moment, the flowers are reaching their best condition to be presented to the women of Don on the International Women’s Day. The agronomists take special care of the flowers. They are not watered from the tap; some are fed via the dripping system, others with the help of the capillary mats.
“Capillary mats are soaked with the nutritious substance and the plants take as much as it needs from the mat”, shares the chief agronomist of the greenhouse complex, Ms. Lyubov Antonova.
In the neighboring greenhouse they grow cyclamens, balsamines and multicolored geraniums. According to the agronomist, geraniums are among the most popular plants. They are ordered irrespective of the holidays.
Another greenhouse is a home to 80 thousand tulips bulbs. They will open their colorful heads by the International Women’s Day. Currently, one can tell the color of the tulips only by the tags on the containers. However, by March tulips bouquets will be waiting to be presented in all the local shops.
