Greenhouse horticulture in the circular economy

Greenhouse horticulture is a major player in the efficient and safe production of food and flowers. The system is highly water efficient, but the energy costs are high and the systems are not fully circular.

The project analyses nutrient flows and identifies the critical building blocks of circularity. This is the basis for the redesign of cultivation strategies, including new business models, fit for the circular economy.

Bottlenecks of current systems will be described and analysed, in order to develop solutions through a redesign process, leading to projects to embed horticulture in a circular society.
