The holiday did not bring gigantic profit to Russian flower growers. This year the prices on flowers increased 15% before the special day.
Red roses were in especially high demand. According to the association The Greenhouses of Russia, on the eve of Saint Valentine’s Day, sales volume of pink, red, scarlet and mauve roses increases several times. The prices raise accordingly, but this year not proportionally.
The prices on other flowers remain the same, thus overall there is no price surge on flower produce. This year, unlike foreign auctions, where the prices rise up to 50-60%, Russian growers did not increase the prices more than 10-15%.
Within the past 15 years about a dozen contemporary greenhouses for growing flowers have been built. The acreage of flower growing greenhouses varies from 5 to 30 ha. Overall, they employ over 3000 highly skilled professionals.
