Prince Charles 'anguished' by death of British trees from new pests and disease

The Prince of Wales has lamented the "appalling tragedy" of Britain’s lost trees, saying even native oaks are now a "deep cause for concern".

The Prince, who spoke of his personal “anguish”, said the “new or increasing” threats of pests and disease are an “appalling tragedy for everyone who loves trees and the countryside”.

Saying Britain is now “confronted by such a truly alarming situation”, he praised scientists and botanists for their work and urged them to be “more cautious, more vigilant and more demanding, very demanding, in tackling this major environmental risk”.
