What can be produced on the mechanical assembly line in the industrial workshop? Furniture, toys, daily necessities, electronic products... regardless of product form, these are non-life objects.
In Hexing Village, Gangyan Town, Chongming District in Shanghai, there is a mechanical assembly line in the park. Chongming Smart Ecological Flower Park can apply highly automated production lines throughout the planting, germination, nursery, filling the gaps with seedlings, transplanting, and shipping of flowers. The whole process is completed on the mechanical assembly line and is dedicated to building a modern intelligent flower nursery center.
This flower park with a total investment of more than 220 million RMB and an area of over 20 hectares is one of the key flower industry projects currently under construction in Chongming. The automated seedling production line is undergoing the final stage of commissioning and trial production will begin in April this year. It is expected to fully operate by the end of the year.
Gangyan Town has a long history of planting seedlings and flowers. The planting area of seedlings and flowers in this town is more than 9,000 hectares, especially in the Yuanhexing area. This Yuanhexing horticultural field was established in 1958, with a branch of flower production bases and the market subject. According to the development strategy of the Chongming District, the seedling and flower industry developing foundation of the Yuanhexing area will be strengthened, vigorously introducing world-class flower enterprises, and promoting the rural revitalization with the flower industry cluster development.
With this background, Chongming Smart Ecological Flower Park came into being. The park is invested by the government and operated by Shanghai Yuanyi Seedling Co., Ltd., and will supply more than 120 kinds of flowers for the 10th China Flower Expo in Chongming in 2021. The project started in December 2018 and was the first key flower industry project introduced after Chongming District successfully bid for the 10th China Flower Expo. After intensive construction last year, the installation of all production facilities and equipment has been completed.
In the nursery workshop and greenhouse covering an area of nearly 100,000 m2, the first eye-catching thing that is the automated irrigation system, where the rainwater collected by the park will be filtered, temperature-adjusted, acid-adjusted and configured into the required fertilizer solution. Then it will be transported to the nursery greenhouse through an automatic pump system, and the self-propelled sprinkler irrigation truck is used to complete the integrated irrigation of fertilizer and water. In the workshop, the reporter saw a set of imported equipment and assembly lines putting in order, some of which were already in use. The production greenhouse is equipped with a fully automatic seedbed logistics system, a greenhouse control system, a greenhouse double-layer inflatable covering material, and a geothermal heat pump temperature control system. These flower nursery facilities and equipment are mainly imported from the Netherlands, as well as Italy, Denmark, Japan, and domestic advanced agricultural technologies.
Qian Haizhong, chairman of Shanghai Yuanyi Seedling Co., Ltd., told the reporter that the construction of Chongming Smart Ecological Flower Park has promoted a key step forward in domestic seedling production and realized the entire automation of flower nursery in China. First, the substrate supply system completes the crushing and stirring of the large package of substrates. The substrates will be transports to each seeding line precisely. After operations, such as filling substrates, punching holes, sowing, covering, labeling, and watering are performed on the seeding line. The nursery plug trays will be automatically loaded onto the seedbeds and enter the germination chamber through the logistics system. After the germination is completed, the germinated seeds are transported to the nursery greenhouse in the plug tray, and after a certain period of cultivation, they are transported back to the workshop to automatically fill the gaps with seedlings to remove the holes and undeveloped seedlings and then continue to be sent back to the greenhouse for cultivation until the seedlings are finally packed and shipped from the loading platform to customers across the whole country.
Throughout the process, production technicians can enter the production plan through the computer and control all the settings, the location of the greenhouses, facilities and equipment and seedbeds, as well as monitor the internal environment of the greenhouse and the growth status of seedlings, which greatly releases labor, improves production efficiency and product quality.
The reporter learned that after all these automatic seedbed circulation system lines are put into operation, they can support the production of more than 400,000 plug trays at the same time, and all the seedbeds can be filled with more than 80 million flower seedlings. The nursery center after production can produce annually 200 million flower seedlings and more than 10 million high-quality potted plants. "The application of automated, informatized, and intelligent production equipment enables more effective control of the nursery cycle, product quality, labor costs, land utilization, etc. to achieve a green, environmentally friendly, cost-effective and efficient production model, which is in line with international standards and also is the future development direction of the flower seedling industry. At present, the exhibition greenhouse of about 2400 m2 in the park has been opened to the public, displaying over 100 thousand of potted flowers, seedlings, and seeds from more than ten well-known Chinese and foreign breeding companies. The reporter learned that as the 10th China Flower Expo in 2021 is gradually approaching, the operator of the park, Yuanyi Seedlings Company plans to hold a new-variety flower display event in Chongming in May this year, in order to conduct selection and preparation of many new excellent flower varieties for the Flower Expo in advance. Recently, the park has carried out the maintenance and nursing for the first batch of potted flowers this year, a total of more than 100 varieties, more than 170,000 pots, including consolida, rudbeckia, echinacea, campanula, canna, sage, etc. This spring, a total of 150 varieties and 300,000 pots of flowers are planned to be produced, covering more than 400 series with more than 1,000 colors. After careful cultivation, these flowers will enter the full bloom period around April or May this year.
