Make it Mother's May!

The Mother's Day rush is officially over, or not? Yesterday, Mother's Day was celebrated in many parts of the world. It is a big holiday for the flower industry, but is usually followed by a dip in sales. So why not make it Mother's May instead of Mother's Day, several thought. 

Star Roses and Plants, for example launched a “Make Any Day Mother’s Day” campaign. “With social distancing and travel restrictions interrupting our everyday lives, we want people to know that it’s okay to celebrate Mom any day in May, not just on May 10,” says Layci Gragnani, Rose Program Manager at Star Roses and Plants.

The campaign encourages consumers to purchase blooming gifts for Mom, such as Knock Out® Roses, at their local garden centers or online throughout the month of May


Star Roses and Plants is offering free social media graphics for garden centers that would like to participate in the campaign. To view and download the graphics, visit https://bit.ly/2ymFwwP.

Also American Grown Flowers promoted Mother's May. "Honor your moms in your life more than just one day", they say in their Twitter post. 

Also Colombian farm Valley Springs has made a video, that we presented last week as well, in which they encourage celebrating Mother's Day, and not just one day, but all of May, with the hashtag: #letscelebrateyourdayallmay. 

Holiday driven flower sales
With the initiative of prolonging the Mother's Day celebration, the industry hopes to keep up the sales a bit. Particularly in the US, the flower sales are holiday driven and by prolonging this holiday they try to minimize the dip that usually follows. And particularly this year, with weddings, proms and other events that have been cancelled, flower and plant sales are expected to drop after Mother's Day.
