Russia: Kaluga region restores flower production

The head of the region, Mr. Vladislav Shapsha visited CJSC Rose Hill during his visit to Borovsk region.

The enterprise has been growing roses in accordance with the Dutch technology since 2008. The acreage comprises 14 ha. The enterprise can boast the equipment enabling a high level of productivity. In 2019, the greenhouse complex sold over 13.5 million flowers.

Flower growing business is one of the spheres mostly damaged by the pandemic. As the press service of the region reported, the enterprise in question incurred significant losses related to wholesale prices dropdown in the conditions of low demand on produce. In order to minimize the losses, the company management took the decision to decrease the production output to 13% of the regular level, retaining the number employees at the unchanged salary level.

Recently they have started enhance productivity gradually, however, at the moment the productivity does not exceed a third of the planned one. The management are planning to conquer new markets, including the territory of Kaluga region. Such a development is quite possible as flower shops have recently reopened.
