From buckets to IBCs

It was common practice for contractors to order a pallet full of buckets with screening products from Sudlac, but now Ruben Lensing notices increasingly more contractors are making a switch to IBCs. “That works well, both for the contractor and the factory. For example, an IBC with the Eclipse LD coating contains 1000 litres and weighs 1400 kilograms. That equals 70 buckets. So it saves a massive quantity of waste. When they are empty, we simply collect the IBCs from the contractor.”

This development started last year when increasingly more contractors started to order Topclear cleaning substances in IBCs. This transition is now happening with the other products as well. Of course, Sudlac will also continue to supply the substances in buckets.

The chalk season started early this year. The flower growers needed screening products early to inhibit the growth of the flowers and plants. “We had a good spring, although there was a lot of wind. This is especially difficult for contractors who apply the screening product to the greenhouse by hand. The wind is less of a problem with mechanical chalking.”

Containers from Rotterdam
Despite the corona crisis, the delivery of the products continued normally and the same applied for exports. After all, the borders were only closed for people, but products were allowed. “The containers were simply loaded in Rotterdam and transported to Mexico, New Zealand and so on. Our distributors just got their products and luckily there was no shortage. The only difference for us was that we couldn't visit our customers in the Netherlands and abroad.”

In the meantime, all tests with new products continued in the factory in France. “Because the borders were closed, it was difficult to perform the same tests in the Netherlands. Now that corona seems to become less of a restrictive factor and the borders are opening up again, we will expand the tests in the Netherlands and other countries in the second half of the year.”
