British Flowers Week 2020: Floristry industry insight

British Flowers Week 2020 will in years to come be remembered as the year that this annual celebration took place virtually. Starting Monday 15th June, the launch of British Flowers Week not only coincides with the re-opening of New Covent Garden Flower Market, but it’s also the day that florists are able to re-open their doors.

Now in its eighth year, British Flowers Week is an initiative from New Covent Garden Market. And its aim is to champion the fantastic variety, beauty and quality of British cut flowers, foliage and plants. Plus the people behind them. This includes small and large scale British growers, wholesalers and local florists throughout the UK.

Public involvement
This year, for the first time, the Flower Market are extending the celebrations to the public. They’re asking businesses and the public to join in with the event by decorating their window with British flowers or even a painting or drawing. There’s a competition, with a host of wonderful prizes too.

Virtual workshops
2020 will also see a series of virtual workshops, garden tours and talks going live online and on social media. Their aim is to educate consumers on the best of British blooms. Florists including Simon Lycett, JamJar Flowers, Shane Connolly, Cyrill Tronchet, Tattie Rose Flowers, Rebel Rebel and NB Flowers are taking part. And flower grower, The Real Flower Company will also be going live with a virtual tour of their fields. For details of timings, click here for the Virtual Schedule.

Social media
New Covent Garden Market will be showing support on social media throughout the week. Those taking part are encouraged to share images of their decorated windows with #BritishFlowersWeek and tagging @MarketFlowers.
