On Tuesday and Wednesday 16 and 17 June, De Ruiter in Amsterveen, the Netherlands, received dozens of flower professionals, buyers, sellers, packers and marketers who accepted the invitation to act as jury member during Exposed2020.
Visitors could assess dozens of Kenyan and Ethiopian codes and varieties of De Ruiter East Africa on their buds, color and commercial value. A blind selection was the result without variety names or numbers.
It turned out to be quite the feat but the results are very welcome and indicate that the company is developing in the right direction with its varieties from Kenya and Ethiopia. The importers, exporters, packers, but also Dutch growers from Kenya and Ethiopia have indicated with individual scores which varieties are the most attractive.
The data is processed and shared with colleagues from Africa as well as the jury members, according to Örjan Hulshof, marketing manager of De Ruiter.
A week before, the Dutch growers were invited in person for a visit to the demonstration greenhouse of the company in Amstelveen, where, besides breeding and selecting cut roses, also pot roses, garden roses, patio roses and hip roses are bred.
