Turkey: Women growers in Mugla grow 18 million flowers in 27 greenhouses

Mugla municipality started a flower production project in the Koycegiz district of the city in 2015 with 3 growers. The growers were contracted to grow flowers with the purchase guarantee from the municipality.

The project has expanded in time and now it consists of 60 growers producing flowers in 27 greenhouses covering 3 hectares. In total, the greenhouses have produced 18 million flowers over the course of the project. These flowers are used in the decoration of parks and green areas of Mugla and neighboring cities such as Aydin, Isparta, Burdur, Antalya, and Afyon.

The growers in the project are all women and the project is regarded as a local initiative carried out by the municipality to include more women in the workforce and in the agricultural production.
