Turkish Growers Association delighted with increase in import tax on outdoor plants

Turkish Growers Association (SUSBIR) President Ahmet Dundar expressed the grower’s satisfaction with the increase of the import tax on outdoor plants and noted that he is expecting this development to an increase in outdoor plant production in Turkey.

Ahmet Dundar: “We have been trying for years to stop the use of imported plants by the municipalities and other state organizations. Some projects were specifically designed for imported plants. Now this increase in the import tax will shift the demand back to the domestic products.

The import tax is increased from 3.9% to 19.5% and we believe that now in public projects undertaken by local and state organizations, the planning will be done with domestic products in mind. However, we as the domestic growers also need to start expanding our product range and should be able to supply different products at different sizes to fulfill the market demand.”
