Royal FloraHolland starts research into feasibility of new logistics centres

In line with its strategy, Royal FloraHolland is also working on its own real estate strategy. The introduction and roll-out of Floriday, One Clock and new logistics concepts not only result in a different use of space, but also in a substantial reduction in the amount of space required. Free space is available for this purpose in both Aalsmeer and Naaldwijk. Royal FloraHolland is carrying out research into the feasibility of new construction, in combination with the reallocation of the land that becomes available. In addition, possibilities for rebuilding existing real estate are included in the study.

Research new developments
In Aalsmeer, the development of Aalsmeer-East is being examined in concrete terms. The fallow land will soon be made ready for construction. In close consultation with growers and trading companies, we are looking at strengthening the market place. Royal FloraHolland is investigating the possibilities of functionally upgrading the Naaldwijk location. One of the possibilities is the realisation of a modern logistics centre on TPW Mars. It is also looking at the possibilities of converting existing space to accommodate new logistics concepts and at the forms of collaboration with Royal FloraHolland's customers. This also applies to Rijnsburg. The (re)development of Royal FloraHolland's property will be fully geared to new logistics concepts in line with Royal FloraHolland's strategy. The future-proof design of real estate makes it possible to optimise and expand the services provided to growers and buyers. This development will enable both growers and traders and Royal FloraHolland to operate more effectively.

The municipality of Westland recently announced its intention to stimulate the development of its knowledge and innovation infrastructure. It sees a boost for the knowledge and innovation of the greenhouse horticulture sector as a boost to the economy in this tough corona era. The municipality is also investigating how the area of the Greenport Horti Campus can be redeveloped integrally with the sites of Royal FloraHolland. Royal FloraHolland and the municipality of Westland are working together on this. Working out the plans still requires a great deal of thought and calculation. If the business cases are correct and there is agreement between the parties involved, the next steps can be taken.

International floriculture is in a state of flux
Due to the consequences of the crisis, Royal FloraHolland is making headway with the three strategic programmes: 100% digital, One Clock and International Payments. The crisis makes it clear that Royal FloraHolland's course is the right one, but also that the strategy needs to be accelerated. This will enable growers and buyers to put their business operations in order and to recoup the losses incurred during the crisis in the years to come. Royal FloraHolland offers a complete range of ordering, payment and delivery services. There will be new services that offer advantages for both growers and buyers, on the direct flows and internationally. Royal FloraHolland will provide transport from the garden to the buyer's back door so that more frequent, faster and fresher deliveries can be made to the place customers want. New financial services enable customers to trade internationally more easily and carefree via Floriday. It relieves the grower and offers more opportunities for the buyer.
