BG Installatie is preparing for anniversary year

"The challenge is to keep the overview in big horticultural projects"

Freelancers wanted, urgently, Laurens van der Sande of BG Installatie recently proclaimed. In these times of corona, that can be called remarkable, because although plenty of greenhouse horticulture projects are ongoing, it is also difficult and people were (temporarily) unemployed. "We look positively to the future, will celebrate our twentieth anniversary next year and can certainly use extra (experienced) staff, both in our employment as well as freelancers."

Less export due to corona
BG Installatie, located in 's-Gravenzande in the Netherlands, is mostly active in horticulture electrical engineering. It is also mostly a main contractor who hires BG for carrying out an electrotechnical installation from start to finish - "we also install transformer stations" - or part thereof in some cases, particularly lighting installations.

At the moment the team, partly made up of flexible staff, is mostly active in the Netherlands. Over the past years, BG has also been active abroad. Laurens: "We work abroad with around 50 to 60 persons, now a bit less and on only one project. This concerns a complete installation at a 16-hectare location in England. Still, we have 8 projects running at the same time, and that makes us happy."

March is never the busiest
In March, it was a bit more quiet, but that is not unusual. "The busy times for our company always start in April-May, so that was a blessing in disguise, although it is still important to consistently follow the corona regulations."

The corona crisis caused the cancellation of a lot of international requests, but BG is not idle. "It helps that we never say no. Our customers, the main contractors, have to rely on us. Maybe that will pay off in sufficient good assignments."

Overview of the construction site
To be able to handle more projects when the market recovers, BG is particularly looking for experienced electrical engineers who can manage and keep the overview of increasingly large projects. "The deadlines are increasingly tight in international horticulture, and there are many parties involved in a project, so a lot of communication, fine tuning and keeping the overview is something leaders on the construction site certainly must have."

Traveling schedule
But do people still want to go abroad for longer periods? Laurens: "Certainly, but we do rotate so it's not always the same persons who are away from home for a long time. In Europe, it is mostly ten days on and then 3 to 4 days off, and overseas it is mostly three weeks, although there are colleagues who do not mind being away for longer."

BG does not only work on location, but is also active in 's-Gravenzande. "We have started to invest in prefab years ago to simplify work on location. That will be increasingly important, we notice, because a bit less knowledge is required and it saves time."
