August 24-28:

Colombia: Chrysanthemum Week online this year

From August 24 to 28, the second edition of Chrysanthemum 2020 - or 'Semana del Crisantemo' in Spanish - will be held in Colombia. Traditionally, it is an in-person event, but this year, it will also be online, enabling international visitors to participate. Not only the breeders will open their doors, also lectures, speeches, and conferences will take place gathering together the entire value chain players (breeders, growers, importers, supermarkets and many more) around topics such as development, innovation, logistics, competitiveness, marketing and floral design.

2nd edition
For many years, breeders have been organizing their own show and exhibition in a week. In 2015, however Deliflor and Dümmen Orange, by coincidence, did their show in the same week and it resulted in such a success that they decided to do it together in week 35 every year. Then, in the years that followed, more chrysanthemum breeders joined and in 2019 this week represented almost all Chrysanthemum breeders in Colombia and the idea arose to officially name it Chrysanthemum Week. Companies like PMA, Asocolflores and ProColombia also joined, giving the event a more significant status. All in all, by organizing this particular week, it has become a more interesting event for international buyers and growers.

The aim is to include all the players within this industry, from the breeders, producers, traders, suppliers, the academia, universities, research and development centers to the final customers and buyers, whether they are local or international. And the organizers have one clear goal: making the Chrysanthemum Week the annual gathering for the Chrysanthemum Value Chain industry.

Breeders
Currently, Chrysanthemum week is sponsored by Danziger, Dekker Chrysanten, Deliflor, Dümmen Orange, Floritec, Icon, Progeny, Royal Van Zanten and Selecta one.

Open houses
Traditionally, Chrysanthemum Week is an in-person event, but due to the pandemic, they take it to another level this year by also offering virtual access to the different activities organized. Regarding the Open Houses, for example, there are several options to view the breeders' varieties, namely virtual, on-site and virtual and presential.

Royal Van Zanten, Selecta One, Dümmen Orange, Deliflor, Floritec, Dekker Chrysanten and Danziger perform their Open House in a virtual way. Icon Selections, Progeny, Deliflor, Floritec, Dekker and Danziger perform their open House in a face-to-face way and Deliflor, Floritec, Dekker and Danziger in a virtual and in-person way.
