With the peak of summer behind us, the days are getting shorter and growers in the Northern Hemisphere are preparing for fall. Screen products (chalk) and coatings are removed from the glass and the desire for a clean greenhouse roof is once again topical.
The amount of requests for a roof washing installation is always fairly stable, but we have noticed for several years in a row that the number of requests for roof washers increases in the summer, says machine builder Besseling Techniek. “Growers are well aware that the light levels are lower in the fall and winter and fortunately call us in time. When it was really hot, we continued to work very hard to be able to deliver to customers their own installation by the end of the summer," according to Jorien Plak-Schouten, commercial manager at the company.
Maximum light
The first growers have already switched on their Roofmaster to make the greenhouse roof as clean as possible and thus get maximum light inside. "New machines are delivered weekly and despite the travel restrictions our employees travel, as well as circumstances allow, to install them abroad. Service to our customers is paramount: a Roofmaster only comes into its own when it is doing what it was bought for: washing."
#roofwashertuesday
At Besseling Techniek they talk about roof washers every day, but in Heerhugowaard they also understand that it is not a daily routine for customers, or potential customers. In order to pay attention to the questions every week, they came up with the #roofwashertuesday ‘during a fun mood’.
"Where everyone is familiar with things like 'meatfree Monday', 'Wednesday mincemeat day', 'throwback Thursday', 'Friday fish day', 'Saturday wash day' and 'Sunday rest day', in our eyes nothing had been thought of for Tuesday. But that problem has now been solved ", Jorien laughs.
"Weekly we will report something via our social media channels, which really can be anything at all. From the delivery of an installation at a customer, to a tip of the day, a highlighted section or a staff member that we put in the spotlight. This we do with the aim that growers should realize that the roof washer sometimes is entitled to a little extra attention and love, so that it will harvest more light and there will be more production. Harvest the daylight!"
