Prior to the digital edition of GrootGroenPlus 2020, the KVBC trial committee trialled six novelties on 29 September, five of which received a medal. One silver and four bronze medals have been awarded. On September 30, the winners were announced by the chairman of the KVBC, Helma van der Louw.
Silver for Carpinus betulus ‘Minoor1’ (MINOR GLOBE)
The trial committee praises this cultivar, submitted by Van Vliet New Plants BV from Stroe, for its strikingly spherical growth. This standard-stemmed Carpinus grows much wider than other compact cultivars. The leaves are remarkably sharp and deeply serrated. The specimens presented form fairly long shoots, which will require regular pruning to maintain sphericity. Read more.
