China: Flower industry in Jiangchuan District of Yunnan helps rural revitalization

In recent years, Jiangchuan District in Yunnan has stepped up efforts to adjust the structure of the local agricultural industry, to vigorously develop the flower industry, promote farmers' income, and help rural revitalization.

In the orchid cultivation park of Lanqin Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. in Adou Village, Qianwei Town in Yunnan, there are many varieties of orchids planted in the greenhouse. Workers do watering and weeding. It is full of vitality and presents a vibrant scene. The company has an orchid seedling planting base of around 3 hectares in Adou Village. Since its establishment in 2019, the company has continuously expanded its planting scale and at the same time, it is driving the surrounding farmers to be involved in orchid cultivation. At present, 17 farmers from surrounding households have joined the industry of orchid planting. "The entire Adou Village has a planting area of more than 26 hectares, with an annual output of about 500,000 pots and an annual output value of about 20 million RMB." Mr. Wu Xinglong, chairman of Lanqin Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd., told the reporter.

Lanqin Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. is mainly engaged in the research and development of new orchid varieties and semi-finished seedling products. Catering to market demand while doing product research and development, the company also provides orchid seedling cultivation services. When the seedlings grow to a certain extent, they are sold to growers for planting. Finally, the company will purchase the orchids and sell them to all parts of China to ensure the quality and sales of orchids.

Thanks to mature technical guidance and good service, under the influence of many large growers, Mr. Bayouke, a villager in Adou Village, leased around 2 hectares of land to plant orchids in 2019. At present, the orchids in Mr. Ba’s flower greenhouse are growing well and will be available for the sale market around the Spring Festival in 2021. Mr. Ba said: "I used to be the driver. Now there are many people who are planting in this area, and I heard them say that the economic benefits are okay, so I wanted to try it.”

Jiangchuan has superior natural and unique conditions for the development of the flower industry.
