New Market Analysis Report available for Australian industry

With collection for the 2020 Nursery Industry Statistics survey currently underway, we find out about the development of a new Market Analysis Report designed to help industry navigate the opportunities and challenges coming their way.

by Gabrielle Stannus

ACIL Allen Consulting have been engaged by Hort Innovation to conduct a PESTLE analysis to support the data collected through the Nursery Industry Statistics survey. The results of this analysis will be incorporated into a new Market Analysis Report, acknowledging the investment placed in R&D projects and industry advocacy.

“The Market Analysis Report will provide a complementary evidence-based narrative to the Nursery Industry Statistics survey to meet the interest of businesses in how the findings relate to the key drivers and barriers, opportunities and challenges influencing the industry’s growth and development,” says Rebecca Moriarty, an economist from ACIL Allen Consulting, the company responsible for developing the Nursery Industry Business Benchmarking Tool with the support of Greenlife Industry Australia and Down to Earth Research.

“This interest extends beyond wholesale nurseries to include the whole value chain, service organisations and government,” Rebecca adds, “The report is timely given the industry is experiencing strong growth but also uncertainty, driven by economic conditions and COVID-19.”

ACIL Allen Consulting will develop this report by applying the PESTLE technique to the greenlife value chain to identify the key drivers and barriers, as well as opportunities and challenges facing this industry. Each component of the value chain will be analysed to identify its key Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legislative and Environment (PESTLE) themes.

“Key industry participants and informants will be engaged in developing the report using a modified Delphi approach. This is a technique that allows people who will use the results and/or have specific insights and expertise to be actively involved in the analysis,” Rebecca explains. “It involves developing numerous versions of the report with feedback from the users/experts in between each one. The result is a narrative that helps answer the question – what does all of this mean for business?”

Rebecca says that this forward-looking report will enable members of the greenlife industry to make better-informed decisions about their future by identifying key opportunities and challenges facing their business.

The new Market Analysis Report will be available in early 2021.

The ‘Nursery Industry Statistics 2017/18 to 2019/20’ (NY17008) project is funded by Hort Innovation using nursery industry levy and funds from the Australian Government.
