Turkish plant and flower growers request for the continuation of the VAT discount in 2021

With the pandemic that started in March, the ornamental plant producers had suffered through difficult times and their profits and sales went down dramatically.

With the plants produced remained mostly unsold, the growers almost reached the stage of stopping the production. At this point, the state brought the VAT rates down from 18% to 8% and helped growers to boost their sales in the domestic market. This discounted rate will end in January 2021. Ornamental plant producers, on the other hand, want the VAT reduction to continue as the severe conditions of the pandemic still continue. Making a statement on the issue, Turkish Plant Growers Association (SUSBIR) President Ahmet Dundar said: “We want the VAT discount on the flowers and plants, which end as of January 1, to continue on in the new year. Continuation of the 8% VAT reduction is important for the floriculture industry, which has gone through a very difficult process. This 10 percent VAT reduction is automatically reflected in the consumer purchase prices and helps the consumer purchase flowers at a discounted price which effectively boosts our sales. "
