The Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers, Inc. (ASCFG) is dedicated to advancing the domestic cut flower industry. One of the best ways to achieve this is to encourage young people to consider cut flower production as a career option. With that goal in mind, in 2021 the ASCFG will award $1,000 each to two students interested in becoming cut flower growers. In addition, the successful applicants will receive one year memberships in the ASCFG, which includes a subscription to The Cut Flower Quarterly, complimentary registration to ASCFG events, and other member services.
The Dave Dowling ASCFG Scholarship is open to all students working toward a two- or four-year degree, or a graduate degree, in horticulture or floriculture. Students should have worked, be currently working, or plan to work after graduation in a cut flower production operation.
Applicants must have at least one full year of studies remaining before finishing the degree. Previous applicants not awarded a scholarship may apply again if they still meet all the application requirements.
Part-time students may be considered if they have taken at least 9 credits per year for at least one year, are planning to enroll in at least 9 credits for the coming year, and are enrolled in a program leading to an agriculture, horticulture, or floriculture degree.

One of their winners says
The Dave Dowling Scholarship provided me with incredible opportunities both in and out of the classroom. In 2017, this scholarship paved the way for me, my education, and my business to thrive. Financially, the award allowed me to allot greater focus to my studies and relations that were taking place on campus.
However, this scholarship was more than just a financial gift. What is unique about the Scholarship are the addons that the ASCFG provides recipients. The first year's complimentary membership provided immense amounts of research and valuable information I found in The Cut Flower Quarterly, online forum and blog platforms, and through interpersonal relationships and hands-on experiences presented to me through the ASCFG.
I have remained a member since, and my cut flower business and I would not be where we are today if it were not for the Dave Dowling Scholarship and the ASCFG.
