This year, National Tulip Day on 16 January 2021 will not kick off with the usual international starting sign, the construction of a huge picking garden full of tulips in Amsterdam. On behalf of all Dutch growers, Arjan Smit, chairman of Tulip Promotion Netherlands, appeals to florists, supermarkets, web shops and tulip growers in the United Kingdom: “Let’s connect”. The request is simple: share a picture of a tulip on social media on 16 January 2021, using the hashtag #Tulipday. The growers hope to reach many people in this way so that every Briton knows that tulips are widely available again. Smit: “The central theme of the 2021 tulip season is ‘Let’s Connect’. This message fits in perfectly with the colourful, positive and cheerful character of tulips. We hope that all tulip lovers will participate in this social promotion on social media!”
Poster and tulip flag
To support tulip sales by retailers, TPN has created new posters with the theme ‘Let’s Connect’. They can be downloaded free of charge at www.tulpenpromotie.nl. The tulip flag that was introduced last year proved a roaring success in the Netherlands. Smit: “Many florists and tulip sellers ordered the flag, which gave Tulip Day an even more festive character throughout the Netherlands. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if in Great Britain the flag would also be up everywhere? With its slogan, ‘It’s time for tulips’, florists can fly the flag throughout the season!” The tulip flag can be ordered until 31 January 2021 for only €7.50 (excl. shipping costs) via www.tulpenpromotie.nl.
