US (NJ): Lucas Greenhouses awarded horticultural professional of the year

The Horticultural Professional of the Year award is given to an individual or a company who is recognized for outstanding contributions to the commercial horticulture industry in New Jersey. To be qualified, the individual must by a member of the association and can represent any segment of the industry - nursery, landscape, greenhouse, or retail.

As Steve Wagner, Vice-President of NJNLA said, "Lucas Greenhouses exemplifies the finest in growing greenhouse crops for our industry and sets the standard for which all of our greenhouse industries should aspire to."

Lucas Greenhouses started out with 9000 square feet in 1979 with a goal and a dream of having an acre. Their product line spoke for itself - excellence was always their first priority, and it paid off. After only one year, they had more demand than they had product. So up went four more gutter connected greenhouses, so that they could better serve their existing customers and reach out to new ones.

This pattern of producing a high quality product resulted in their need to increase production space, and has continued ever since. While the types of structures they now build to grow in have changed, the standard for which they grow has remained constant. Their focus is on Excellence.
