Is it feasible, in addition to One Clock, for visual auctioning in Rijnsburg to be retained for growers and small to medium-sized buyers? This is the key question in a study that Royal FloraHolland will conduct in the next few months. Over the next six months, the Rijnsburg auction, in association with growers and buyers, wishes to look at this issue and come to a decision.
During member sessions and information sessions, for instance, there have been numerous indications pointing to the fact that road carriers, florists and other buyers have a need for an auction with a specific assortment and where physical viewing is possible. This issue has also been addressed in discussions with members of Flora Futura, with whom Royal FloraHolland management has consulted quite intensively recently. The result of this can currently be seen in Eelde.
Steven van Schilfgaarde: "Let me make it clear that the role of our Rijnsburg location as an export location and as an integral part of One Clock isn't at issue. But we do, of course, listen to what's going on among our members and their customers, as after all, we're there for them. That's why we will use the period ahead to look at possible solutions for Rijnsburg and whether we can come up with a solid business case. At the end of the day, if we do decide to do something, it has to be self-sufficient."
Royal FloraHolland intends to enter into discussions with various stakeholders in order to examine the commercial feasibility, and it is expected that there will be more clarity on this question by the end of the second quarter of this year.
