Financial drama unfolds at pot and bedding plant growers in Germany

In January only, horticulutral company Lars Dehne in Wiesmoor, Germany had to throw away 10,000 plants daily. As result of the lockdown, Dehne, as well as many other growers in Lower Saxon, has no other choice at the moment. Specialty stores like garden centers and florists had to close there doors in December already, so their products cannot reach the customers.

Proplanta.de spoke with Lars Dehne about the current, dramatic, market situation (in German).

Note: the grower, who together with its colleague-growers, has been hit hard - since December, the sales dropped by 90% - published on their website an 'emergency letter' to the politicians to make authorities face the facts. The compost pile is growing, the measurements are unfair (several sales channels are still open at the expense of others), there is no adequate support, a disaster is about to happen in different companies when no compensation is being offered to the ones who lost so much sales.
