UK: Fleurie Nursery report on success of MDS collaboration

Since January 2019, Fleurie Nursery and Tristram Plants have been working with the MDS graduate scheme to encourage trainees into the ornamental horticulture industry. Not typically a ‘go to’ sector for graduates, there are many rewarding, long-term career opportunities for those who know how and where to grasp them. The placements are between 6 and 12 months long and enable trainees to get involved in, and under the skin of, targeted projects and areas of work in their placement company, bringing direct value to their employer and developing themselves as capable people within our industry.

Fleurie has had great success in filling roles as diverse as Stock Controller, Site Supervisor, Despatch Team Leader, and Systems Process and Improvement Coordinator, and have taken 8 trainees in the short time they have been acquainted with the scheme. Additionally, Binsted Nursery is about to take on its third MDS Despatch Team Leader placement. The experiences and business benefits have been so positive that Walberton Nursery is also considering suitable roles within their business.
