The FPFC has received the sad news that Ricardo Gomez, of Floral Trade Distributors, has passed away.
His friend and business partner Chip Cox had this to say:
"It is with great sadness that I am informing the flower industry that my best friend and business partner Ricardo Gomez has passed away due to COVID complications. Ricardo fought a hard and long battle before ultimately allowing himself to feel peace again Thursday, February 18, 2021.
"For those of you that knew Ricardo you know that he truly gave all he had to the cut flower industry. He began his career harvesting in the fields, then worked his way through the ranks to become a top salesman of a major flower farm. He then went on to co-found Floral Trade Distributors where he spent his last 8 years.
Ricardo truly lived the American dream, coming to this country with absolutely nothing and making something for himself and all those surrounding him. He will truly be missed by all who were fortunate enough to work with him throughout the years.
Click here for the GoFundMe page that has been created for his wife Ana and son Diego who have dealt with a heavy burden of trying to take on everything so suddenly including expenses that come with taking care of their beloved husband and father after he's gone. If there is anything anyone can do to help it will be appreciated greatly. Ricardo was the person who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it and I am hopeful that we the people who work side by side day in and day out can come together to help lessen the tremendous burden from the shoulders of his family and friends.
I would like to personally thank everyone for their support as well through this time and want you all to know Floral Trade will carry on and continue to transport/distribute products for you for the future as I know that is what Ricardo would have wanted as well."
The Fresh Produce & Floral Council's Staff and Board of Directors thoughts are with the Gomez Family.
