A profitable cultivation of flowers is gaining popularity among the farmers in the Barind tract. They are now commercially cultivating several species of flowers on their farmlands. According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources, flower farming has started bringing a new dimension to Rajshahi’s economy because many people are showing interest in blossom farming commercially in the region.
A large number of farmers are passing a busy time in farming flowers on a commercial basis as they are getting good yields and prices. A profitable cultivation of flowers is gaining popularity among the farmers in the Barind tract. They are now commercially cultivating several species of flowers on their farmlands. Amid the gradually mounting demand for flowers the number of growers are increasing as they are reaping more benefits from the cultivation compared to many other cash crops. Nadim Hossen of Godagari upazila has become an icon in the field of flower farming. He started farming flowers on around four bighas of land in the area.
He said many people had built their fortunes through flower farming as it was more profitable than many other cash crops. Sohel Rana of Bagha upazila has gained a reputation from farming varieties of flowers like gerbera, gada, rose, rajanigandha and gladioli. He said the traders purchase flowers from his field as per their choice and demand, making him achieve profits.
