Valentine's Day 2021 in Turkey:

Red roses sold at 0.36 USD per stem at growers whereas at around 2.7 USD at retail

The sales price of the red rose varies between 0.34 and 0.67 USD per stem at growers depending on its size, while the boxed and decorated version is sold for 2.7 USD in florists.

Hanifi Alp Arslan, a rose grower from Silifke, Mersin stated that rose prices vary significantly according to their size. Arslan noted that the roses between 30-35 centimeters are sold for 0.34 USD per stem whereas the roses between 40-50 centimeters are sold at 0.54 USD. The roses over 50 centimeters are sold at growers for 0.67 USD.

Mustafa Baday, who works as a florist in Erdemli, Mersin commented on the increased demand in this year's Valentine's Day. Mustafa Baday: “This year we, as florists, suffered from the pandemic. As Valentine's Day coincided with the day of lockdown which takes place on weekends, we had completed our preparations in advance. We prepared our flowers and we put them in the refrigerated areas and delivered them to the customers We had a hard time finding red roses. as the demand cannot be met by the supply due to low production. The retail price of a red rose in a box started from 2.7 USD. We had been in trouble for a long time, but we are happy with sales on Valentine's Day in Mersin.”

Florist Sule Sevindik: “Florists have been suffering for a long time. We were doing much better on the weeks leading to Valentine's Day before. But this year, our sales have dropped by 50 percent. We were looking forward to Valentine's Day. as we had completed our preparations and kept receiving orders. The sales on that were satisfactory for us. The price of red rose doubled compared to last year and reached 2.7 USD per stem due to the increased production costs."
