Interflora release adverts highlighting gender equality ahead of International Women's Day

Flower company, Interflora, highlight gender inequality with new rose bouquet where just one of the flowers, is red!

They have launched their International Women's Day campaign by visualising shocking statistics using floral bouquets including the fact just one in 20 FTSE 100 CEO's are women.

Celebrated on the 8th March every year, International Women’s Day is a day dedicated to acknowledging the contribution women have played in achieving greater equality. It’s to recognize the women who have stood against the system, challenged the status quo, and made a difference.

The equal truth
This year, Interflora is taking on the #ChooseToChallenge theme by visualising shocking gender inequality statistics that are still prevalent today using Interflora flowers to raise awareness of gender bias. Made up of a mix of white and red roses, they show how women are often overlooked and outnumbered.

Women would need to work 36 extra days to earn the same as men in 2020. Research revealed that women would need to work nearly 900 hours extra a year to earn the same as men.

Only 1 in 20 CEO's are women
Yes, you read that right. While there have been several high-profile women who have made it right to the top, only 1 in 20 of the CEO’s heading up companies in the FTSE 100 are women.

75% of NHS staff are women

While our health service is driven by women, they make up only 45% of salaried doctors in England and less than a quarter of senior doctors, meaning they are underrepresented in professional and senior-level roles.

Only one-third of MPs are women

The latest YouGov poll found that only 34% of MP’s are women. This means that women make up an even smaller percentage of those making decisions that affect all of our lives.

Only 6.1% of current world leaders are women*

Only 12 out of 195 countries have a woman as the head of their government.

Only 7.4% of the companies on the Fortune 500 list are run by women*

Only 7.4% of the companies on the Fortune 500 list are run by women, showing there is still a long way to go to achieve equality between the sexes in the corporate world.

Bethany Day at Interflora comments: 'Our new campaign for International Women's Day presents striking statistics about gender inequality through the medium of flowers.

Flowers are the perfect way to celebrate and show support for the women in your life and this year we're taking it one step further by also using them to raise awareness of the challenges we still face in dismantling gender inequality.'

The Equal Power Flower - Available 8th March 2021

To support the campaign Interflora have also launched a new bouquet. Inspired by Bumble CEO and youngest ever female self-made billionaire, Whitney Wolfe Herd, Interflora have launched The Equal Power Flower Hand Tied using rosebuds to highlight gender inequality statistics.

This bouquet visualizes shocking inequality statistics that are too often ignored and will be available exclusively on 8th March 2021.

From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge. For more information on these appalling statistics view the full campaign here.
