Mother's Day a blooming success for Scottish florists

While it may not be possible for people to spend time with their mums this Mother’s Day*, florists are finding that people are more keen than ever to show some love with a floral gift.

The Harvest Garden, an Edinburgh based florist said that lockdown had seen an increase in sales across Christmas and Valentine’s Day, adding: “We’ve had to take on extra delivery drivers, extra staff.

"Like everyone else, we import a lot of flowers from Holland, and our chocolates are imported from all over the world. "We haven’t seen too much difficulty in this continuing, given everything. It’s a wee bit more expensive than usual, but yeah, business has been very good.”

Azalea in Aberdeen said that business picked up over the last year, and they were very busy this Mother’s Day.

One of the managers said: “We have hired extra delivery drivers, of course we can’t have people coming in to collect like other years.”

*Mother's Day in the UK was celebrated on March 14 this year.
