China: "16 ha rose project from A to Z delivered in record time"

At the beginning of the month, Azrom submitted a 16-ha project in Shandong, China, that began construction in June 2020. Already in November 2020, a first planting of rose seedlings was done and the first harvest started in February this year. "This project challenged us greatly," says Yuval Gerzon, Azrom's director in China. "The schedules we had to meet was extremely tight," Gerzon recalled, "but since Azrom already knew how to deal with complex projects in the past, I knew we will find the path to meet the client's schedule".

Hundreds of workers worked simultaneously
To meet the challenging schedule, they required a very strict work plan. In fact, the project was built in parallel rather than in a queue, which means that all the systems are installed together and at the same time. "Hundreds of workers were required to work simultaneously inside the greenhouses and in the operating areas. It required exemplary organization and order. We also sometimes worked two or even three shifts a day. All this operation was made possible thanks to excellent cooperation with the client. “

Adapting the greenhouse to the extreme climatic conditions
The project was designed and built according to the unique conditions of the place. "Unlike growing vegetables, where the growing seasons are relatively short and it is easy to "skip” the hot period, growing roses has no division into seasons but a growing period that lasts 3 to 5 years until varieties change. This means that the greenhouse should be able to provide favorable growing conditions throughout the year, and also take into account the extreme climatic conditions, i.e., harsh winters and hot summers that characterize the area.”

They experienced a particularly cold winter this year with a minimum temperature of -18 degrees and heavy snow. "This gave us a great opportunity to actually check that our engineering design was correct. At the coldest time our greenhouses, maintained temperatures of around 12 degrees, i.e., a DT= 30 degree, this with a hot water heating system with temperature of no more than 40 degrees.”

Delivered in record time
"This was another opportunity for us to show Azrom's ability. A 16-ha project is planned and executed at the highest level of standards and delivered to the client in record time. Both Azrom and the client are very pleased with the result. For us, this is an indication of the success of a project.

Azrom in China
Azrom has been active in China since the 1990's and has built a significant number of projects there since then, but only in 2014 decided to put a special focus on the territory, setting up a permanent office and professional team, currently located in Kunming, Yunnan Province.
