Scottish Ministers have agreed to align with the UK Government’s timeline announced in March 2021 for EU SPS goods imported directly into Scotland.
This means physical checks on high-risk plants will take place at Border Control Posts (BCP) in Scotland from 1st January 2022. Pre-notification requirements and documentary checks, including phytosanitary certificates, will also be required for low-risk plants and plant products from 1st January 2022, with physical checks on this category commencing from March 2022.
Whilst SPS products can also be imported through BCPs in Wales and England for clearance before onward travel to Scotland, importers of SPS goods who intend to import directly to Scotland are encouraged to familiarise themselves with available BCPs in Scotland.
A list of current and expected BCPs in Scotland will be uploaded to the website in the next few days.
