China: Impression of PanAmerican Seed New Variety Pack Trial, 2021 World Garden Show

The 2021 World Garden Show (WGS) was held from April 27th to May 3rd in Haining, China. Judging from the size and content of the show, this year’s WGS was the largest edition yet. Simultaneously, Ball China hosted the 19th PanAmerican Seed New Variety Pack Trial.

O2O enables the international communication exchange
In 2018 WGS pioneered its “Forum plus Exhibition” model and invited people from RHS, IPPS, Appletern, and Butchart Garden to discuss the future, operation and ways of the horticulture industry.

"In 2020, all international travel was stopped due to the pandemic. Fortunately, WGS’s webinars were able to be held in time thanks to the digital technology. The webinars took place throughout April and attracted tens of thousands of people who joined online," they report.

In 2021, WGS was taken place as usual and invited breeders like Raymond Evison, educators like Andrew Wilson and professional landscapers like Jeff Gibson, all of whom could share their expertise. WGS also invited garden owners around the world to show their proud gardens on webinars and to share their gardening experience. Designers and leaders from real estate and prominent academies were also invited to give lectures about their specialism.

At the same time, Ball China hosted the 19th PanAmerican Seed New Variety Pack Trial, which brought different contents of professional and home gardening in the W.E.-shaped pavilion. The W pavilion exhibited the new variety from PanAmerican Seed, such as E3 Wave Petunia, Mirage Deep Rose Petunia, Jolt Purple Dianthus and White Lion Leucanthemum. "Other excellent performance crops, like Wave Petunia, Angelonia, Pentas, Dahlia and the Perennials had their show through vintage cars, beaches and boats and other props. They were creatively presented and the fun of color mixing was represented by various prosperous plants," they add.

New online presence to boost horticultural industry
Recently, the online part of WSG has becoming more and more important. "The immersive viewing of the exhibition through VR and 5G technologies, the uninterrupted live broadcast on TikTok and other social media, have reached millions of online viewers."

Haining Flower-Live-Streaming E-Commerce Base was also launched, for which hundreds of vloggers are invited to help the online explosion of the flower gardening industry. "Through the annual WGS, we continue to cooperate with major companies and platforms around the world to provide a window for China's home gardening market to communicate and display and to promote the continuous upward development of the industry."
