Denmark: New network brings growers together to learn about sustainable solutions

Making growers and the whole greenhouse industry in Denmark more aware of the sustainable solutions on the market and getting them together on subjects they are not competing on. These are the two main goals of HortiAdvice when deciding to start a network. In order to realize it, they applied for a GUDP fund; a modern grant scheme, established under the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries in 2010, for businesses that are open to innovation. In January they took off and so far, they’ve organized two webinars and more events are in the pipeline.

The network
Currently, the network consists of 9 large growers, 11 industry partners, 4 schools and the business organization Dansk Gartneri, Katrine Heinsvig Kjær, explains. Specifically, the network will offer a number of inspiring workshops, company visits and lectures that will give participants an attractive forum to meet in, and exchange knowledge and ideas. “It is our expectation that the network will contribute to increased cohesion and discussion of green transformation in the industry, as well as a number of future development projects with a focus on climate adaptation in greenhouse production.”

Webinars
The first webinar they organized was on the sustainable lightning and the second one, that was held recently (May 18) was on the future of peat and sustainable alternatives. And more webinars will follow in the coming months.

So far, Kjær is very pleased with the interest, and not only within the country, but also from abroad. “The first webinar we organized was in Danish, but the second one was in English as we invited some foreign presenters, and we immediately saw an increase in registrations from participants from other countries.”
