Ornamental plant producers in Turkey complain about 200% increase in pot prices due to the pandemic

Ornamental plant growers have suffered from the price increase in the plastic products they use in their business by 200 % within the last year.

The coronavirus epidemic and the economic crisis are increasing the cost of living day by day. The crisis has also negatively affected those who grow ornamental plants. The growers in Antalya stated that up to 200 %  increases in plastic products hurt them significantly and cut down their profit margins.

Bulent Kilicaslan, who has been growing ornamental plants for 14 years in his greenhouse located in the Aksu district of the city, complained about the increase in input costs. Kilicaslan stated that the most spending goes to labor, planting seeds, and seedling expenses, and said that the increase especially for plastic products causes them much trouble. Kilicaslan noted that the plastic pot price increased from 0.13 USD to 0.26 USD within 1 year, and the price of plastic packaging increased from 2.5 USD to 5 USD per kg.
