China: Qingzhou expands the flower industry with an annual output value of tens of billions

Qingzhou is the main producing area of northern flowers and an important flower distribution station in the north of China. Huanglou Town in Qingzhou City has the title of "the first flower town in the northern area of Yangtze River". In recent years, while focusing on the flower industry, the local government is making efforts to build "Qingzhou Flowers" into a well-known regional brand at home and abroad through the guidance of the government.

Entering the Qingzhou Flower Seedlings Trading Center in Weifang City, all kinds of flowers are open to the public. Citizens, tourists, and vendors from all over the world walk back and forth in this sea of flowers to see, buy and transport flowers. China Qingzhou Flower Seedlings Trading Center occupies an area of 600,000 m2 and is the largest flower distribution center in the northern area of the Yangtze river, with almost 300 varieties sold throughout the year. At present, the annual transaction volume of Qingzhou flowers is about 11 billion RMB, and the annual sales of flowers only from this trading center are 6 to 7 billion RMB.

Qingzhou is one of the important phalaenopsis production bases in China. In 2018, the national output of phalaenopsis was about 60 million. Qingzhou alone produced about 6 million phalaenopsis, accounting for about 10% of the country. In recent years, Qingzhou City has vigorously implemented the "Science and Technology" project, giving full play to the role of science and technology, promoted the upgrading and improving the flower industry, introduced cutting-edge talents to inject new vitality into the research, development, innovation, talent training, and high-tech applications of new flower varieties.

Affected by the epidemic this year, the flower industry in Qingzhou did not start well, but the locals actively guided merchants to sell through the Internet, such as e-commerce and achieved great results. Influencer, Mr. Zhu Kai currently runs his own two greenhouses for succulents, with more than 2,000 varieties, mainly for sales through webcast and currently has tens of thousands of followers. The live broadcast starts at 12 noon every day, and right after the three hour broadcast the packaging and delivery start. In this way, the daily sales are about 15,000 RMB.

In the past, due to scattered flower farmers and poor industry visibility, Qingzhou's flower industry faced a challenging situation of high-quality but low prices. In order to further start the "Qingzhou Flower" brand upgrade campaign, starting in 2018, Qingzhou has strengthened the building of a public service brand, promotes the use of unified logos through government subsidies and other means, and carries out publicity and exchange activities in the form of associations.
