New glasshouse designed and built for growing Cheshire business

UK: From concept to completion

A stunning new glasshouse is to help a growing Cheshire business begin the next chapter in its success story as it continues to expand in order to meet customer demand.

The Hollies Farm Shop, in Little Budworth, began in 1959 as a vegetable stand on the side of the road with an honesty box. Today, after more than 50 years in business, it has become one of the most popular of its kind in the North West, offering luxury lodge accommodation, shopping, and fresh, local, and homemade foods at its Farm Shop, Deli, and Butchery.

Now, a 293m2 glasshouse, designed and built by the team at CambridgeHOK, has become a striking new addition to the site – packed with colors and the powerful scents of hundreds of plants and flowers grown on-site. The building started in September of last year and was completed in time to open in April, ahead of the key Spring/Summer surge in gardening customers.

Noel O’Leary, Sales and Business Development Manager at CambridgeHOK, says the finished product, which includes an automated venting control system, is one he is proud of. “It has been a pleasure to help the Hollies Farm Shop to continue to expand and our team have delivered a great looking glasshouse which will bring many benefits to their business,” he said.

“The owners of Hollies Farm Shop came to us looking to replace an old Venlo glasshouse initially and they were keen for a really modern facility, but one which also had a Victorian style and feels to it inside and out. They had a clear vision of what they wanted to achieve, from the look and style to its anthracite grey color which matches the business brand.

“Delivering someone else’s vision is not something easy to achieve, but something we feel we offered when first presenting our design to them, especially with the feature porch entrance that we incorporated. It really does look stunning now it is complete and it has been great to take a project from a customer’s idea, through concept, design and construction. It really has added a significant amount of new space in which the business has been able to grow plants, hanging baskets and tropical plants.”
