China: "We are preparing the largest flower trading place in western Yunnan"

Since last year, Kunming International Flower Auction Exchange Center Co., Ltd. has signed several cooperation agreements with the Yao'an County Government in Yunnan province. Yao'an is fully prepared to build "the largest flower trading center in Western Yunnan".

Yao'an has a flat terrain, with high-quality natural conditions such as climate and soil which are suitable for the growth of flowers. Since the "13th Five-Year Plan", Yao'an County has successfully introduced Kunming International Flower Auction Exchange Center and other 14 companies which have certain industrial strength and influence through the combination of "government-led funds to invest, building platforms and bases, and introducing the entities to grasp management". 14 companies including Yunxiu Flowers have certain strength and influence, to build a "flower industry belt" of more than 1333 hectares along Fulu Avenue in Yao'an, and boost the high-quality and rapid development of the flower industry.

In July, Yao'an has plenty of sunshine and is at high temperatures. On Fulu Avenue, known as the "Flower Industry Belt", there are flowers blooming in the 8 km long greenhouses cluster.

In the greenhouse for potted plants of Yunnan Dianyun Flower Co., Ltd., it is warm inside and the fragrance is overflowing. Potted flowers such as pink begonia, red carnations, and purple hydrangea are blooming and bright in great colors. The workers stepped up to pack these potted plants into carts, and in a few days, the flowers will appear in cities such as Gansu and Ningxia thousands of miles away.

For workers who live near the flower base, working here is considered a kind of welfare. They take the land rent when just working next door, and they can take care of home easily, and their life is much better than before.

In the greenhouse for the seedling cultivation of Dianyun Flower, the intelligent machine regularly sprays the nutrient solution into the seedbed. After a while, the carnation seedlings are covered with crystal dew. Workers standing on both sides of the seedbed to quickly harvest the vigorous carnation branches with their hands, tie them into small bundles, and then dip them with rooting powder before packing them into boxes. “There are at least 100 workers working here every day on the base. This year, the order for the seedlings of carnation is 20 million.” Tan Weizhong, the person in charge of Yunnan Dianyun Flower Co., Ltd., told reporters that he chose to work here two years ago after many inspections. Not only did he take a fancy to the unique environmental advantages here, but also the business environment here. The government has invested in the construction of high-standard greenhouses, and companies can settle in easily. These companies are very confident in future development.

In the soilless greenhouse of Yunnan Shengyuan Agricultural Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd., roses of multiple varieties and colors are growing very well. Fan Taiyun, the general manager of the company told reporters that in the past three years, there are currently more than 20 varieties of roses in the production base, and the annual sales volume is more than 10 million. "Since last year, we have started soilless cultivation, and the yield and quality of roses have increased four or five times compared with soil cultivation. Sales value and volume have always been among the top few in the Kunming flower auction market, and it is expected that the output value will exceed 10 million RMB this year."

The Dijiao Village Committee of Dongchuan Town, located on the "Flower Industry Belt", was still a “shell“ village a few years ago. The collective economy of the village was less than 25,000 RMB, but it has increased to 136,000 RMB in just a few years. "Since the introduction of flower enterprises, previously unused land has been used, cooperatives have been established in the village, which has driven the people, infrastructure has been continuously improved, and the living environment has also been greatly improved.

In just three years the area has developed seedling cultivation, flower planting, as well as the continuous extension of the industrial chain of packaging, cold chain, logistics, etc., including leading the development of new industrial facilities, intelligence, and digitalization, Yao'an flower industry has greatly accelerated in the development, and the benefits of industry agglomeration continue to be highlighted. Up to now, the county has developed a total area of more than 746 hectares of flowers, built about 159 hectares of high-end greenhouse flower bases, more than 117.3 hectares of open-field edible rose bases, cultivated 52 business entities, employed more than 3,700 people, and had an output value exceeding 100 million RMB.

Recently, a local project planning area of more than 14 hectares has entered the preliminary work. It is expected that construction will start in March next year and the first phase will be completed and put into use in August next year. The "largest flower trading center in western Yunnan" is progressing in an orderly manner. It is reported that Yao’an County strives to achieve annual production and sales of more than 2 billion fresh-cut flowers and an annual output value of more than 2 billion yuan by the end of the "14th Five-Year Plan", to enrich the people and strengthen the county's leading industry.
