Love story involving a rose turns into a flower shop

A Brooklyn couple who met over 30 years ago over a single red rose is now bringing their love story back to where it all started - opening a new flower shop together in Brooklyn called Verdure Florist. Brooklyn couple Dezzie and Olga Ligon's love story started 32 years ago with a rose.

"I was working in my father's plant shop many years ago and my wife - well, soon to be wife - walked by and I fell in love basically. Chased her down, gave her a rose and here we are today," Dezzie says.
The couple's love has since blossomed into a 21-year marriage where they raised seven children.

Now, they started their very own business venture bringing their love story and love for flowers full circle. "We're trying to offer flowers by the stem, plants, I'm doing home goods as well. The whole point of the store is for people to walk in and feel joy and love," says Dezzie.

The two say their flower shop has been a dream of theirs for years. They're now making that dream a reality opening what they say is the first and only flower shop in the 11233 zip code.

As they live out their florist dreams, the couple says they've received an overwhelming amount of support from the community. They're hoping that support will grow once they have their grand opening on Oct. 9.
