"Instead of 100 cases of flower vases, we can now only order 10"

By now, everyone is aware that there is a flower shortage, but did you know there is a shortage of glass vases right now too? Dorothy McDaniel’s Flower Market needs help and in return is helping Children’s of Alabama.

Covid-19 seems to be affecting all aspects of our lives. Glass vases are another thing to add to the list. Dorothy McDaniel’s Flower Market, a local Birmingham florist shop, cannot get the number of vases they need to make floral arrangements for the community. Usually ordering 100 cases or more from China, the florist is now only able to receive about 10 cases of glass vases each order. Because of this shortage, Dorothy is asking community members to donate bowls and vases.

“It’s kind of a win-win in many ways. It’s recycling glass that most people don’t even want, and it is an effort to sustain our business. We can’t do flower arrangements without vases," she said.

If you want to help Dorothy out, you can drop off your unused glass vases to help this business during the busy holiday season.
