As of 1 February 2022, Kwekerij Tass and Laguna Plants - both with their home base at the Middenzwet in Wateringen - will take over the cultivation and customers of the carnivorous plant assortment from Stricker Plants.
Henny Stricker, the driving force behind Stricker Plants, has been a household name in the field of carnivorous plants for years. What once started as a hobby has over the years developed into the large-scale professional cultivation of Sarracenias, Dionaeas, and Droseras.
As often happens, the now 68-year-old Stricker was approached last year by a grower in the neighborhood with expansion plans. The question was whether his nursery was available for takeover. That seemed a good moment to end his career as a pot plant grower.
Because of his passion for these carnivores, he had built up a nice customer base over the years for his special range, and there was soon interest in his cultivation. Laguna Plants and Kwekerij Tass are already specialized in niche crops, so they were the right parties for him and a takeover was quickly arranged. Laguna Plant will start with the entire assortment. Tass Nursery will specialize in the Dionaea.
For both nurseries, this is a wonderful addition to their current range and enables them to offer an even more varied range of pot plants to their customers.
In January, all plants will move from Rijsenhout to Wateringen and Amsterdam, where they can start delivering as of 1 February.
This does not mean that Stricker has disappeared from the scene. He will continue to guide both growers in their cultivation in the coming years.
