Terra Nova Nurseries announced today a sneak peek of its brand-new Echinacea Sundial ‘Zenith’ variety, which is the first variety in the new Echinacea Sundial Series. This echinacea variety features green foliage and yellow flowers that resemble a fancy chrysanthemum. It blooms from June to October.
Echinacea Sundial ‘Zenith’ displays Novel Anemone-type flowers highlighted by semi-quilled ray petals and brilliant emerald-green eyes that give way to a primrose yellow cone, giving it a truly unique appearance. This variety’s plant habit is short, and it branches from the base, making it perfect for pots.
U.S.D.A. Hardiness Zones for Echinacea Sundial ‘Zenith’ are 4-9, and its exposure allows for full sun. This plant likes to be moderately dry between waterings. It has a foliage height of 14”, a foliage spread of 18”, and a flower height of 16”.
Finish time to a 4” pot is six to eight weeks. The Terra Nova breeding team recommends that growers do not cover the crown with soil by planting too deeply. The variety grows best in temperatures that range between 50 to 55 F for nights and 60 to 65 F during the day.
This variety performs great in container use, presenting long-lasting color and extra-large double flowers close to 5” across. Retailers will enjoy the distinctive look and versatility of Echinacea Sundial ‘Zenith’.
Terra Nova Nurseries has created a “Plant Profile” page and “Grower Recipe” specific to this new variety so growers interested in orders can learn about growing habits, plant characteristics, fertilization recommendations, water requirements, and other insights provided by the breeding team.
