Last week, there were the annual flowering trials at Deliflor Chrysanthemums: Deli Florshop. For this occasion, Deliflor had set up a so-called 'Deli Florstore', where a number of the newest, but of course also established varieties were presented in the atmosphere of a luxury department store. Highlights included the newly introduced santini Pixel Amor, as well as the green santini Smeraldo, which will be launched this week for the first time.
Visitors were welcome by appointment, but international travel remained difficult. Though also done before the pandemic, video calling has now become the norm. In these, the breeder walks through the greenhouse, talking and filming.
But those calls, too, differ, as shown in the great example below. Earlier this week, Lejla Begovic, Deliflor's marketing manager, showed Flower Circus viewers around their greenhouse and the Deli Florstore. Groups of people got to see the company's latest breeding results and its hugely diverse assortment. You can watch it too.
During Flower Circus 'Walks' (the counterpart, so to speak, of the tried and tested Flower Circus 'Talks'), John Elsgeest "walks" into every possible international floricultural company in the world. He usually does so through the field. This time, it was indoors for a change.
Deliflor holds 'Delicatessen' shows every two years. During these flower trials, the breeder allows customers a peek at the range's developments. That is somewhat harder now, with the pandemic and all the travel restrictions. Initiatives like these are, therefore, all the more welcome.
