Hazerswoude-Dorp, a 15-minute drive from the Havecon office in Bleiswijk, is home to Hoogeveen Plants. The two companies did not know each other, but that changed in early 2021. After a pleasant introduction, it soon became clear that there was a good connection between them, and a very intensive commercial process shortly followed. Sparring together on the ideal greenhouse for Hoogveen Plants and what a greenhouse it was, completely built and equipped according to the company's own wishes so that it can grow in the most sustainable and efficient way possible. The roof of the shed is even equipped with 1332 solar panels, fully integrated into the greenhouse roof.
Havecon spoke with Siem Hoogeveen about his company.
Hoogeveen Plants started 37 years ago in Greenport Boskoop and in that time has grown into a leading producer of potted garden plants. From a few hectares in the early years, the company has now grown to an impressive 40 hectares of greenhouse space at 14 different locations in and around the Boskoop region. The company has four product groups: climbing plants, fruit plants, Helleborus, and bamboo grasses. A varied assortment of pot plants is delivered throughout Europe. The employees are the ones who carry the company and make it what it is today. Bob Hoogendijk has been appointed within Hoogeveen Plants for a number of years to run the company together with Siem.
When 13 hectares of land became available next to the head office in Hazerswoude-Dorp in early 2021, it was a simple calculation for Hoogeveen Plants to move on and think about expanding the company. After intensive and constructive talks with Havecon, Hoogeveen Plants knew for sure: "Havecon is going to be our builder." It was a deliberate choice to shape the new building without a consultancy/supervision agency. "By letting our staff spar with their specialist knowledge, we arrived at the best solutions."
The cooperation with Havecon went very well. What struck Siem during the preliminary phase was the careful elaboration of the plans; Havecon also took great care with the design in combination with the other suppliers. "Thanks to this intensive preparation, there are few or no points to think about during the construction itself, apart from the day to day practicalities. The construction is going fantastically and according to plan, there is a good cooperation with the Voorwinden Group."
On behalf of Hoogeveen Plants, Peter Sonneveld has been appointed as construction supervisor. Siem is confident about the future of Hoogeveen Plants. "During the COVID-19 period, it became apparent that people started to pay more attention to their homes and gardens, which only benefited business. Greening is trending both indoors and outdoors. With Hoogeveen Plants we want to make a significant contribution to literally greening the world. We have great confidence in the future." As scheduled, we will be planting in early March and are very much looking forward to it!
