Director Agriculture Kashmir visits Floriculture Development Farm Nunnar Ganderbal

Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal visited Floriculture Development Farm Nunner Ganderbal today. He was taken around the different parts of the farm and briefed by the farm manager and technical experts about the various ornamental and medicinal plants cultivated in the farm. Talks about the latest interventions adopted and introduced during the cultivation of ornamental and medicinal plants were also brought up during the dignitary's visit. It should be mentioned that Floriculture Development Farm Nunner Ganderbal is unique in its specialization for the propagation and development of ornamental and medicinal plants in the region.

Regarding the occasion, Iqbal mentioned the economic importance of ornamental and medicinal plants in the overall agriculture eco system and said there is a vast potential in this sector. He also said the department has a floriculture development scheme in place to strengthen this sector in the valley.

Iqbal said the cultivation of ornamental and medicinal plants on commercial lines and the participation of educated youth could help achieve economic security for the concerned farming families. He said that with Kashmir being one of the best tourist destinations in the country, it has immense opportunities to market ornamental plants and floriculture products; therefore, the Department is endeavoring to attract more and more farmers to the cultivation of ornamental and medicinal plants.
