Riverhead-based Peconic Growers LLC was awarded one of the few and highly sought-after adult-use conditional cannabis licenses by the Cannabis Control Board of the state of New York. To date, the state has issued only 110 licenses to cultivators across the state.

The Peconic Grower’s team is led by Icilio “Bill” Bianchi. Mr. Bianchi, 92, a lifelong resident of Suffolk County and former New York State Assemblyman, and his team have spent over five decades growing wholesale orchids on the east end of Long Island and, more recently, began cultivating hemp at his greenhouse in Riverhead.

Given the prerequisites set forth by the state, few candidates qualify for, and even fewer have received approval to cultivate cannabis from the state. Conditional cultivators can begin growing cannabis for adult use immediately, with the hopes of ensuring an adequate supply of cannabis when the state’s adult-use market launches sometime at the end of this year or in early 2023.
